Our Story

A family history since 1868
For over a century, our company has been the symbol of a family tradition that has been handed down from father to son, with the same passion and dedication as always.
Each generation has carried on thefarming legacy, enriching it with new knowledge, but never losing sight of the values that have always guided us: respect for the land, animal welfare and love for quality products.

The Birth
It was 1868 when, with only six head of cattle, our journey began. Domenico Palmo Rossi, who had emigrated to America in search of fortune, returned home for the birth of his son Andrea. After a period of hard work in a foreign land, Domenico had managed to save some money. With those earnings, he decided to make an investment that would change the destiny of his family: he purchased six dairy cows, carefully selecting the best specimens. In the heart of the countryside, surrounded by the beauty of green fields and pastures, Domenico and his family cultivated the hope of building something lasting. He didn’t know it yet, but he was marking the beginning of a story that would continue for generations. Fattoria Rossi had just been born, but the seed of an enterprise that would grow and prosper, respecting tradition and adapting to new challenges, had been carefully planted.

The Birth of Rossi Primo
In 1904, a child destined to become one of the pillars of the farm was born. His name was Primo, and with his arrival, the family’s story took a new and important direction. Raised among fields and stables, he watched his grandfather Domenico with admiration. Once grown, he not only continued the agricultural activity started by his grandfather but helped it grow and prosper. He began purchasing surrounding land, thus expanding the boundaries of the farm.

The Birth of Rossi Ido
In 1938, the Emilian countryside witnessed the arrival of a new chapter in the history of Fattoria Rossi with the birth of Ido. Raised in a family of farmers, from a young age Ido breathed in the scent of the soil and heard the steps of the animals that populated the farm. His destiny seemed already written: together with his father Primo, he would carry forward the agricultural heritage of the Rossi family.
Ido grew up observing his father with admiration, a man who had transformed Fattoria Rossi into a solid and prosperous reality thanks to his entrepreneurial spirit. The tradition of producing Parmigiano Reggiano and caring for the animals was now well-established, and Ido learned early on that respect for the land and for animals was the key to keeping that tradition alive.
When he reached adulthood, he joined his father in the daily work of the farm. It wasn’t only a matter of continuing what his father had started, but also of enriching the business with new ideas and approaches. Ido was not only a tireless worker, but also a man of vision, ready to make bold decisions when necessary. His ability to innovate, while remaining faithful to tradition, was fundamental to the ongoing success of the company.

Gianni Joins the Company
In 1984, Gianni, the son of Ido, made a choice that would change the destiny of the family farm: he left his job as a metalworker and joined Fattoria Rossi, becoming part of the team alongside his father and grandfather.
From the beginning, Gianni brought with him fresh energy and innovative ideas. Raised with tradition but with an open mind toward evolution, the young man began to look at the farm with new eyes. Grandfather Primo, now older, and his father Ido, who continued to manage the farm with determination, welcomed him with enthusiasm but also a bit of skepticism. The younger generation carried new visions.
His passion for the environment and for more sustainable agriculture led him to introduce modern farming practices, improving the conditions of the barns and crops. With Gianni, Fattoria Rossi prepared to enter a new season—a season of growth and renewal, taking the best of tradition and combining it with innovation for a stronger and more prosperous future.

The Organic Certification and the Birth of the Fattoria Rossi Brand
In the 1990s, Massimo and Graziano, Gianni’s brothers, joined the company. With their arrival, Fattoria Rossi not only became stronger but also acquired a new identity. It was during these years that the Fattoria Rossi brand officially came to life—a name that embodies passion for the land, family tradition, and commitment to a more sustainable future. The brand was not just a word but a promise of quality and authenticity, a label that would be tied to the company’s products, symbolizing a commitment that went beyond agricultural production.
But the brand was not the only milestone of this period. During these years, Fattoria Rossi achieved a major accomplishment: obtaining Organic Certification.
The farm’s land began to be managed according to strict organic farming principles. The forage and cereals grown not only had to meet organic regulations but were also used to feed animals that, as always, could graze freely in vast fields.
For Massimo, Graziano, and Gianni, Organic Certification became the symbol of a new way of farming: not only to produce, but to do so in harmony with the environment and people’s health. The Fattoria Rossi brand thus became synonymous with a company looking toward the future with a clear vision: producing good, healthy food that respects nature.

The Turning Point of Fattoria Rossi
The year 2000 marked a fundamental moment in the history of Fattoria Rossi—a real turning point representing the beginning of a new era for the family farm. Over time, the vision of Gianni, Massimo, and Graziano took shape in a concrete project: further improving the living conditions of the animals.
The first major step was the construction of the free-stall barn, a facility that fully respects animal-welfare standards. In this new space, cows were no longer kept in small boxes but were able to move freely, graze outdoors, and live in a more natural and comfortable environment. Thanks to spacious and well-maintained outdoor areas, the animals enjoyed more freedom, reducing stress and improving milk quality.
In 2000, the hay storage shed was also built—another essential step to ensure a constant and high-quality supply of feed throughout the year.
But the real major novelty of 2000 was the beginning of direct product sales. The three brothers decided to take a bold step: bringing their products directly into consumers’ homes. Direct sales meant not only closer contact with customers but also the ability to guarantee even greater quality.
With this turning point, Fattoria Rossi came even closer to its founding values: authenticity, transparency, and respect for nature. Every product leaving the farm carried the promise of healthy, high-quality, zero-km food obtained with environmentally friendly methods and respect for animal welfare.

Fattoria Rossi and a New Lifestyle – “Healthy Eating”
In 2010, Fattoria Rossi took an important step forward, becoming a leader of a movement that would shape the future of food and sustainability: “healthy eating”. This philosophy was not just an abstract concept but became the guiding principle behind every choice and action of the company—a concrete commitment to producing food that respects the environment, health, and tradition.
Fattoria Rossi decided to focus on food production that not only satisfied taste but also embraced consumer and planetary well-being. The promise was simple yet powerful: zero-km foods, born directly from the farm’s land and delivered fresh and genuine to customers’ tables, without intermediaries. This ensured that every product was authentic and of superior quality, capable of telling the story of the land with every bite.
The concept of zero-km was not just about reducing distance between production and consumption but represented a broader philosophy valuing sustainability. Every step of the production chain was redesigned to minimize environmental impact.
Animals lived freely in spacious, natural areas, and forage was grown on the farm without chemical fertilizers or pesticides.
As consumers became increasingly attentive to quality and traceability, Fattoria Rossi committed to guaranteeing maximum transparency. Every product was traceable from field to table, allowing customers to know exactly where their food came from.
Fattoria Rossi thus became a symbol of how tradition and innovation can coexist. Every product carrying the farm’s brand was a promise of quality, care for the environment, and respect for the people choosing to eat consciously.

The Commitment to Renewable Energy – The First Photovoltaic System
In 2012, Fattoria Rossi took an important step toward a more sustainable future with the installation of its first photovoltaic system. Solar energy became a fundamental resource for the company, which chose renewable sources to power all its activities. The system represented the first step toward energy self-sufficiency, drastically reducing dependence on traditional and non-renewable energy sources.
In 2012, the company also obtained certification for a renewable-energy-powered production process, a recognition that confirmed its ongoing commitment to sustainability. The introduction of the photovoltaic system and the certification marked a turning point for the company, becoming a concrete example of how agriculture can evolve in harmony with nature.

A New Chapter for Fattoria Rossi – Expansion and Innovation
In 2015, Fattoria Rossi underwent an important phase of expansion and innovation, building several new structures. The first step was the construction of a state-of-the-art curing warehouse, where Parmigiano Reggiano could mature in ideal conditions.
Next to the warehouse, Fattoria Rossi opened to the world of hospitality with the creation of a bed and breakfast / agritourism. This new structure offered visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the countryside, experience authentic rural life, and taste the farm’s products directly.
Guests could stay in a family-friendly and welcoming environment, surrounded by nature and the harmony of agricultural activities.
Completing the picture was the construction of a laboratory for fresh product production.
To meet growing production needs, the farm also built a larger store where customers could purchase products directly.
Additionally, a new barn for raising young cattle was built, designed to offer each animal an optimal environment for healthy and serene growth.
Finally, a tool shed was added—an efficient and organized space that facilitated daily work and improved overall farm operations.

Outdoor Pig Farming and the Opening in Florence
In 2016, Fattoria Rossi expanded its production by introducing semi-free-range pig farming, allowing the creation of traditional cured meats from the Reggio Emilia and Parma areas, such as prosciutto and coppa, continuing a gastronomic tradition rooted in Emilia-Romagna. The animals, raised with full respect for their well-being, lived outdoors, freely grazing in large green spaces. This not only ensured them a healthy and natural life but also gave the meat superior quality and unique flavors.
In 2016, Fattoria Rossi also expanded beyond its home territory with the opening of a new location in Florence, bringing a piece of Emilia-Romagna to the historic city. Here, Fattoria Rossi offered its cheeses, cured meats, and fresh products directly to consumers.

Innovation and Tradition – Cured Meat Curing and Online Sales
In 2018, the construction of the new facility dedicated to cured meat curing was completed. This new space, designed to ensure ideal temperature and humidity, was where typical Emilian cured meats—such as prosciutti, coppe, and salami—reached their peak. Aging, a process requiring time, patience, and great expertise, became even more efficient thanks to this state-of-the-art facility, allowing each cured meat to mature with care.
To make its products even more accessible, Fattoria Rossi took a major step into the digital world by launching its online sales site. For the first time, Fattoria Rossi’s traditional Emilian products were available not only in physical stores but also at the click of a button.
At the same time, a new system dedicated to preparing online orders and packaging Parmigiano Reggiano was implemented.
